Expanded cork blocks
Cork is a common interior floor finish and has also been used as external rainscreen cladding for buildings. We wanted to see if cork can be used as a primary structure. We started a project with the aim to create a “solid cork” building that eliminates the need for frames, linings, glues, tapes etc. The result was a robust, low cost ecological building which is almost entirely biodegradable and zero waste.
