Retrofitting the UK’s c.27m homes on a path to net carbon is expected to create more than 10,000 new jobs in retrofit coordination, advice and assessment roles by 2025. Businesses across the sector have already reported the capacity challenges and the difficulty in finding people with the right skills for specific roles. At the same time, almost 700,000 young people in the UK are not in employment, education or training and over 300,000 have lost their jobs due to the pandemic.
About the Programme
The new programme will be a free, 10-week full-time bootcamp training individuals in cohorts of 25 for entry level roles in retrofit as Retrofit Advisors and is aiming to:
- Provide employers to work on green and renewable energy and retrofitting with a reliable source of diverse and highly-motivated, entry-level talent equipped specific skills, mindsets and behaviours needed to succeed from day one.
- Provide life-changing opportunities to individuals who face barriers to employment & motivate them to launch a ‘green’ career– specifically around unemployed young people aged 18-29 (targeting over 50% female, over 80% of ethnic minority and more than 30% LT unemployed)
