Building Capacity for Climate Action: Committing to Climate Framework – curated by Climate Framework

The urgent and interconnected challenges of climate change, rapid urbanisation, social inequities, health risks and economic disparities demand having the right knowledge and skills (i.e. capacity) within the built environment sector, to effectively and holistically respond to these challenges in tandem, fast and at scale.

Over the recent years, the buildings and construction industry has been showing a momentous culture shift, reporting much more awareness and activity around climate literacy than what was the case a few years ago. To accelerate reskilling/upskilling across the sector, the global, transdisciplinary ‘Climate Framework’ Initiative has created a shared curriculum that can be adopted by all actors and organisations of the built environment value chain. Officially adopted by the RIBA to formulate their Climate Literacy training programme, the Framework is utilised as a tool to identify climate-focused content, knowledge and skills gaps across the industry and academia.

The session will introduce the Climate Framework Initiative, its structure and its implementation into new and existing climate-focused training programmes, as exemplified by RIBA, CIBSE and London South Bank University. It will also touch upon the collaborative work undertaken with LSBU to build a lifelong learning programme around net zero design, operation, procurement, leadership and management.

Chair: Mina Hasman, Sustainability Director, SOM & Lead, Climate Framework

Speakers:
Dr Aaron Gillich, Director, BSRIA LSBU Net Zero Building Centre
Alex Whitcroft, Director, KIN
