Considerate & Sustainability Credentials

Futurebuild is leading the way in its considerate and sustainability credentials by introducing new goals and pledges for 2019!

The aim is to ensure the event achieves the highest standards in key areas - such as being an inclusive and respectful event for everyone, minimise the environmental impact of the event through waste and resource management, and create a healthy environment for both exhibitors and visitors. We will…

Use the Considerate Constructors Scheme’s Code of Considerate Practice

CCSFuturebuild will be Professional Partner of the Considerate Constructors Scheme for the 2nd year. The Scheme’s fundamental values represent everything we work hard to promote, and together, we’re confident that we will be able to have a positive impact of the industry and its image. The aim of the partnership is to make the event as considerate as possible in respect of the environment, workforce and community.

Diversity of speaker panels

Our aim is firstly, to find the best speaker for each topic and, secondly, if there is an equal choice, to make sure that we get a good gender balance.

Looking at the conference and a selection of the Futurebuild curated seminar programmes,
we are pleased that we have improved the conference ratio form 2018 to virtually 50-50 and have also achieved this in Urban Infrastructure. The Buildings seminar is about on third women to two-thirds men and the Energy seminar has about 25% women – so room for improvement in both of these.

Continue the journey to becoming a zero-waste event, by:

  • Continued the relationship with GES to produce zero-waste seminar theatres, conference arena and all features by using a combination of modular systems and construction materials that go back to the supply chain
  • Extended the Waste Zone to provide you with more information to help you to navigate away from the current take, make and throw-away society towards an intelligent, closed-loop system where waste is seen as a valuable resource.
  • The Waste Zone will also take an exciting new format with vibrant stands taking the form of unique beach huts, developed and provided by the School of Architecture & Design at the University of Brighton and with a firm focus on ensuring zero waste
  • Created our very own Futurebuild zero-waste restaurant in partnership with the ExCeL

Reduce single-use plastic, by:

  • Produced eco-friendly recycled PET polyester lanyards, which are sponsored by Wavin
  • Through partnerships with Wavin and Zip, we will offer visitors a free, reusable water bottle
  • By working closer to ExCeL London we will remove all plastic water bottles and plastic straws and will replace plastic soft drinks to recyclable cans in all catering areas
  • Working closer with Live Buzz to ensure the plastic wallets distributed to all visitors are recycled from previous events and are recycled again at the end of the event

Reduce print, by:

  • All Futurebuild marketing collateral has been printed on FSC certified stock so that it can be recycled
  • As well as the above, we have worked with Event Guides to reduce the quantity of Previews and Event Guides. We will also encourage all visitors to hand in their Event Guide at the end of their visit to ensure its reused or recycled
  • Provided recycling points for Event Guides and plastic wallets at all entrance points
  • Changed the Press Office to have a digital only format, so we will not accept printed press information and encourage the media to upload to our FTP or hand in a USB stick

Look after the health & wellbeing of everyone, by:

  • We will offer free water filling points for visitors, stay hydrated by bringing your water bottle along and filling it at the ICE Refill Station in the Urban Infrastructure Hub or the Zip Water Bar in the Interiors Hub
  • Expanded seating, networking areas and cafés so you can relax away from a busy event
