Response to the Budget
Futurebuild has welcomed today’s budget announcement to increase the housing infrastructure fund to £5.5bn to support the building of 650,000 homes.
Martin Hurn, Managing Director of Futurebuild said: “Tackling the under-supply of housing in the UK is arguably the biggest single challenge facing the industry, so this boost in funding to make new land and physical infrastructure available to get homes built is very welcome.
“The Chancellor’s commitment to unlock 650,000 homes will require embracing a new approach to housebuilding; one that delivers affordable, high quality homes, quickly.
“Housing will be high on the agenda at Futurebuild 2019. Our conference programme will include sessions dedicated to the future of housing, which will address challenges such as construction leadership, the housing crisis, urban developments, providing long-term quality homes and retrofitting. The Offsite Hub, in partnership with Explore Offsite, will provide a platform for experts to collaborate and showcase the latest technologies and solutions available for the delivery of new homes through examples of full-scale builds. As well as this, the Offsite Hub will explore new and existing approaches to providing high quality, affordable housing, through the four different seminar streams.
“Throughout Futurebuild, we will explore the latest methods and approaches which will meet the demand for affordable housing and provide lower costs for buyers as well as reducing waste.
“We welcome the news of this additional funding from the Chancellor, and we hope to see more in the industry make best use of the latest developments in housebuilding to ensure these funds deliver efficient, affordable and high-quality homes across the UK.”
