The construction industry is entering a period of major disruption caused by new technologies such as Blockchain, the Internet of Things (IoT), Virtual Environments (VE), Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI), Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Automation.
Construction projects are largely characterised by fragmentation in processes, services, and firms. One of the persistent problems in the construction sector is the disconnect between design and construction. This is mainly due to the lack of open and trustworthy information across the supply chain. Blockchain technology has the potential to subvert these effects through the use of open and transparent transactions and truly revolutionise the building construction and building operations, leading to significant efficiencies in the delivery of higher quality, more sustainable assets.
Design Computation Ltd., in collaboration with UCL, is creating a new set of tools combining relevant emergent technologies and distributed systems to leverage the next generation of Smart Contracts and bring more certainty and quality in the AEC industry. We propose reformed information management of built assets to deliver better, more certain results and traceable accountability during the design, construction and operation of a building and infrastructure asset.
