RootBase, an innovative concrete-free structural foundation, has been designed by Shire. Shire are Structural Engineers who specialise in Engineering Innovation and approaching challenges with fresh thinking. Shire specialise in Structural Engineering, subsidence repairs and ground engineering since 1989.
RootBase has been designed to replace the need for traditional concrete foundations and reduces the cost and impact of using concrete both for project timeline reasons and environmental concerns / restrictions.
Using a small steel ‘frame’ and ground anchors, RootBase is removable, reusable, recyclable & uses less raw materials than equivalent concrete bases to achieve equal or better performance in terms of load capacity. RootBase is quick to install, requires no soil excavation and has an instant load capacity.
RootBase can be classed as permanent or temporary. Each base can be installed in 15 minutes with a load capacity of up to 15 tonne each. For example, 12m2 of foundation support can be installed in 3 hours:
