ACAN Biodiversity Workshop

13 May 2026
ACAN Stage

Space in the built environment is highly contested, with many stakeholders competing for access, resource, wealth, livelihoods, care, profits. The loudest voices win, predominantly humans, yet we all know a million other creatures living among us who would protest this. Bringing these other livelihoods ’into the room’, can we re-imagine the designed world through the wings, roots, talents and photosensitivities of others? We invite participants to embody the preferences, needs and skills of our non-human kin. Presented with a live planning proposal, their task is to assess and redesign this proposal from their new perspective, finishing with a staged design review panel to request planning amendments that cater for the multispecies needs in the room.
