Regenerative design in practice: case studies - Curated by Architecture Today and Architects Declare
The Regenerative Architecture Index (RAI) identified three broad sections for regenerative practice: being a good ancestor, co-evolving with nature and creating a just space for people.
‘Being a good ancestor’ means making long term decisions for seven generations ahead ensuring adaptability and flexibility for the future.
‘Co-evolving with nature’ is about recognising that we are part of, not separate from the natural world and it is vital that we actively regenerate ecosystems by leaning and working with natural systems by designing for circularity and encouraging closed-loop energy, material and water cycles.
‘Creating a just space for people’ is concerned with providing social connection, economic opportunity and wellbeing for all through design processes that foster a shared sense of stewardship where neighbourhoods can self-organise and build their resilience. Ethical, inclusive and participative approaches are the key to success here.
