The wooden PopUp dorms are temporary, prefabricated and flexible wooden containers, built in passive house standard, and opened for students in 2015. The environmentally friendly timber construction not only provides comfortable living, but also allows for flexible spatial design. This pioneering best practice example shows that ecological building and comfort is indeed combinable with affordable living. The modular construction offers room for 40 students. In addition to that, the components can be rearranged up to five times in 30 years. In the short time of only one month, the prefabricated wooden modules were assembled and installed on the site and ready for guests. While the atrium in the center of the assembly provides a central communal area, the loggia can also be used by all residents. In 2017 the second part was finished after only one week of construction on site. This offers further 44 national and international students the opportunity to live ecologically in a sustainable environment.
