SDS’s ‘Intellistorm®’ rainwater recycling system enables a site to maximise rainwater reuse and minimise discharge to drain, operating entirely under its own control.
This is enabled by storing and using collected rainwater for non-potable applications such as toilet flushing, irrigation, vehicle cleaning, manufacturing and cooling systems, whilst creating storage capacity for stormwater that might otherwise overwhelm and flood the drainage system. The system interprets and assesses weather forecasts along with expected rainfall and local catchment data and responds accordingly.
SDS Intellistorm® reduces by as much as £100,000 the cost of integrating water reuse into a new build development where attenuation already exists, encouraging the take-up of water reuse. Cost isn’t the only key factor; the Intellistorm® system presents no additional equipment footprint or civil excavation associated with a second tank, allowing space to be removed as a barrier in the decision to integrate water reuse.
Unlike traditional attenuation systems which temporarily attenuate stormwater and allow a continuous controlled discharge of any collected surface water, the Intellistorm® system actively empties in accordance with weather forecast data. It provides only sufficient space in the tanks to receive the incoming rainwater and ensures the maximum amount of water for reuse is continuously available.
SDS Intellistorm® puts water reuse well within the reach of every project where SuDS are a planning requirement. Where a new build development needs to consider both flood resilience and water consumption impact, there’s no need for separate rainwater harvesting and attenuation systems.
By combining two systems and using intelligent data, significant savings in construction costs are achieved, while spatial restrictions to accommodate large water storage volumes are mitigated.
