Ahsan Khan, TrustMark

Ahsan Khan, Director of Research and Innovation, TrustMark

Ahsan is Director of Research and Innovation and leads the Data Driven Decarbonisation programme bringing together Government, Industry and Academia to develop, support and exploit data driven approaches to national and place-based decarbonisation activity.
Ahsan and his team have been instrumental in developing data infrastructure and standards adopted by the Welsh Government across the Innovative Housing and Optimised Retrofit Programme.

He is also the Net Zero Digital Workstream Lead for the Construction Leadership Council and is a member of the Green Construction Board Steering Committee, with a remit to support Government efforts to enhance digitalisation and evidence gathering across capital intensive decarbonisation programmes.
Prior to joining TrustMark, Ahsan led the Active Building Centre Research Programme as part of the UK Transforming Construction Challenge spanning 10 Universities and over 80+ academics.

A technologist at heart, Ahsan has led the development of multi-spectral robotics-based built environment scanning systems to enable real-world data acquisition and support stock characterisation and defect detection from individual building level to nation scale.

His experience in applied and collaborative R&D spans industry and academia, from start-ups to global businesses. His industrial research and development experience includes building integrated renewables, and inter-seasonal thermal storage technologies before moving into research and business development in Higher Education.
Ahsan has a Ph.D. from The University of Sheffield, focussed on the application of design for deconstruction principles and methods to reduce whole-life carbon. His undergraduate degree is in Architectural Technology.
