Prior to joining BRE, Alison worked at i&i limited, a specialist intelligent buildings consultancy. Initially, she worked on a variety of international market research projects. She went on to manage the INTEGER Action Research Programme, a market development network that brought together intelligent building technologies with the green agenda, with a core focus on opening up international markets for such technologies specifically in China.
Alison joined BRE in 2008 to manage the Modern Built Environment Knowledge Transfer Network, a £700k per annum programme that aims to increase the exploitation of innovation in the built environment. A key role of the Knowledge Transfer Network is to signpost the technical knowledge and financial support SMEs needed to innovate effectively. The network grew to over 14,000 members and supported approximately £50 million in Research & Development investment.
Alison has been influential in delivering BRE’s emerging business in China. Strategic projects include programme management of the Beijing Green Building Park and supply chain engagement with Franshion’s Green Building Exhibition Centre in Changsha. This work in close collaboration with UK Trade & Investment is providing opportunities for UK innovators to engage with some of China’s leading property developers. Alison has also delivered workshops and presentations at national and international events including in Brazil and China.
Alison developed BRE’s Knowledge Transfer capabilities with the development of BRE Buzz, the online community and knowledge sharing platform. Alison is working across BRE to facilitate the effective transfer of BRE’s knowledge and research towards implementation across the industry.
Alison represents BRE on the Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership’s Enterprise & Innovation Board. She is actively seeking ways to develop BRE’s strategic relationship within Hertfordshire through collaborative initiatives such as the Green Triangle and Hertfordshire Envirotech Enterprise Zone. She is leading a number of bids to secure funding to deliver a Low Carbon Innovation Network in Hertfordshire and an Open Innovation Hub on the BRE Campus.
Alison joined the Constructing Excellence team to ensure an effective merger of Constructing Excellence into BRE. Constructing Excellence is a national movement for change in the built environment with the aim of bringing about a more collaborative industry. She works across the Constructing Excellence network to deliver continued growth and value for its members.
Alison is a Fellow of the RSA.
