Angus Law

Senior Lecturer in Fire Safety Engineering , University of Edinburgh

Dr Angus Law is a Senior Lecturer in Fire Safety Engineering at the University of Edinburgh, where he has built over a decade of expertise in structural fire behaviour, building materials, and regulatory frameworks. His research spans mass timber construction, cladding systems, flame spread, and the structural response of buildings under fire conditions — areas of growing significance as the construction industry navigates increasingly complex safety challenges.
Prior to his current role, Dr Law held a position at the University of Queensland and worked as a Fire Engineer at Arup, bringing a blend of international academic experience and high-level professional practice to his work. A Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Fire Engineers, he combines rigorous research with practical insight into how buildings perform under fire conditions.
At this event, Dr Law will present findings from his recent work with BE-ST and Built by Nature, exploring where expert consensus exists around mass timber construction and, critically, where significant gaps in knowledge remain.
