Anna Scothern is Chief Executive of the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC), the representative body for the UK’s home improvement, repair, maintenance and retrofit sector. She leads NHIC’s strategic engagement across industry and government, championing higher standards, workforce competence and consumer confidence in existing homes.

Anna is Chair of the Construction Leadership Council (CLC) Repair, Maintenance and Improvement (RMI) Taskforce and Chair of the Construction Skills Mission Board (CSMB) RMI Skills Working Group. Through these roles she works closely with trade associations, certification bodies, manufacturers, local authorities and micro-SME installers to shape practical, deliverable policy that reflects the realities of the market.

Under her leadership, NHIC and CLC’s Impact 2030 strategy is driving a sector-wide focus on reducing poor practice and risk, respecting the workforce and consumers, and rebuilding trust in systems and standards. She is a strong advocate for aligning competence, compliance and quality with proportionate regulation and accessible training pathways that support both new entrants and experienced trades.

A regular speaker on retrofit, workforce reform, building safety and consumer protection, Anna brings clarity, collaboration and real-world insight to complex sector challenges, ensuring the voice of the existing homes market is heard at the highest levels.
