Director of MSc Bio-Integrated Design, Bartlett School of Architecture & Dept of Biochemical Engineering, UCL
Dr Brenda Parker holds an MEng and PhD in Biochemical Engineering from University College London. She is the co-founder of the collective Bio-ID and together with Professor Marcos Cruz she directs a joint MSc in Bio-Integrated Design with the Bartlett School of Architecture. Her postdoctoral research was conducted as part of the Algal Biotechnology Consortium at the University of Cambridge, and she has worked on applied phycology for the last 10 years. Brenda’s work is highly interdisciplinary, bringing together the fields of biotechnology, sustainability and design for applications within the built environment. The work of the Bio-ID group has been exhibited at the Centre Pompidou, London Design Festival and Cooper Hewitt, New York. In 2019 the project “Indus” for the design of a wall that uses microalgae for remediation of heavy metal pollution won the A/D/O Water Futures Design Challenge.
