Charlie Luxton
Charlie Luxton is a Designer, writer and television presenter with a long-standing passion for the environment and for communicating the value of sustainable architecture and design. He founded Charlie Luxton Design in 2005, and the practice has since grown to a team of 12, guided by core principles of creating beautiful, sustainable architecture fit for the 21st century.
The studio’s work has received recognition, including the AJ Small Projects Sustainability Award, The Daily Telegraph Home of the Year, and a Gold Medal with Best in Show at RHS Malvern Flower Show, where CLD collaborated with Jamie Langlands on a wildlife and sustainability garden for The Wildlife Trusts.
Charlie Luxton Design is currently working on a diverse range of projects, from masterplanning to one-off houses, all unified by a commitment to quality, beauty and sustainability. A notable current project is the headquarters for an ethical investment company, designed to achieve carbon neutrality through Passivhaus standards, circular economy principles, and the careful management of a 22-acre site to enhance biodiversity and carbon sequestration. The building will also support an education programme for local schools focused on finance and sustainability.
Recent work includes a community-led project with Hook Norton Community Land Trust, delivering 12 homes, a village work hub and rental bedrooms. The scheme incorporates the UK’s smallest micro-grid and its largest community-run car club, addressing many of the challenges facing rural communities.
Alongside practice, Charlie has spent over twenty years writing and presenting television programmes and regularly speaks to a wide range of audiences on the built environment and sustainability.
