David spent 20 years in manufacturing within the automotive and construction materials sectors before moving into construction. He was central in the creation of Willmott Dixon Energy Services which focused on domestic low energy retrofit and new build projects before establishing Melius Homes.
Set up to deliver ultra-low energy assured performance ‘Energiesprong’ domestic retrofits and assured performance new build homes, Melius Homes delivered the UK’s first, nearly net-zero energy, ‘Energiesprong’ retrofit project & is currently delivering a further 155 for Nottingham City Homes. The rapid delivery objective required the application of scanning techniques and a digital manufacturing process to create bespoke new wall / roof panels - putting a new home over the old one together with communal GSHP, PV and thermal / battery storage for load shifting linked with advanced controls.
Previously, he set up the Zero Carbon Hub and, as a Director, chaired various multi-stakeholder task groups reporting to the several Housing Ministers on the 2016 zero carbon new build homes policy development.
He is a board member of EnergiesprongUK and Good Homes Alliance, a founder of the Building Performance Network and former chair of the Advisory Board for the London-Loughborough Centre for Doctoral Research in Energy Demand.
