Ellie Horwich-Smith
Ellie is Assistant Director and strategic lead for net zero for Birmingham City Council. She leads the Route to Net Zero team, setting strategic direction on corporate and city decarbonisation and coordinating a wide portfolio of activity in support of the city’s economic growth, just transition and sustainability ambitions. This includes organisational greenhouse gas accounting and the council’s environmental governance processes, alongside city heat network strategy, building retrofit initiatives, new policy development and facilitating investment in energy projects.
Ellie has over 20 years of experience in global and start-up consultancy businesses and has developed and delivered many environmental sustainability projects and programmes for the public and private sectors, with a specific expertise in the built environment and heat networks.
In complement to her role at Birmingham City Council, Ellie is Chair of the Sustainable Housing Action Partnership (SHAP), a not-for-profit company that works across the housing system to connect organisations, share learning and support the scaling up of sustainable housing delivery.
