Gary Clark

Principal and Managing Director , HKS London and co-author of the RIBA Sustainable Outcomes Guide

Gary Clark is Managing Director, EMEA at HKS, an award-winning global architecture, interior design, planning and advisory practice. Gary leads the 90-strong team at the firm’s London office, that is currently working on projects in the UK, mainland Europe, Middle East and North Africa.
Gary is passionate about bridging the boundaries between academic research, teaching and practice across many industries, keeping sustainability at the core of his architectural philosophy. With a career spanning three decades, Gary has worked for some of the UK’s most highly respected architectural practices and projects.
A champion of design and sustainable excellence, Gary is Honorary Professor of sustainable architecture at Queens University Belfast and serves as current Deputy Chair of UK Construction Industry Council Climate Change Committee. He was formerly the Chair of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Sustainable Futures Group from 2018 to 2021. He also helped shape the organisation’s Declaration of Environment and Climate Emergency, the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge and a suite of sustainability guidance including the RIBA Sustainable Outcomes Guide to support the RIBA Plan of Work.
