Dr Gary Winn is a chartered architect and chartered arboriculturist, often referring to himself as an Arbitect.

With a special interest in the relationships between trees and buildings, his professional practice straddles the built and natural environment, creating architecture that integrates trees as part of the overall design solution, sometimes in very close proximity, harvesting the many benefits to the environment and building occupants.

Passionate about nurturing new talent, he is a part-time specialist lecturer at Oxford Brookes University, working with both undergraduate and post-graduate students, particularly on the subject of tree-building relationships. His doctoral research developed an approach, that enables trees and buildings to coexist in close proximity, without detriment to each other. The research forms the basis of his book, ‘Tree-Building Relationships: The Advent of Arbitecture’. He is also an assessor for the Level 4 and Level 6 courses in arboriculture.
