John Edwards
Director and Head of Building Consultancy at Edwards Hart Consultants, works across a wide range of building types, from social housing to castles, addressing issues from moisture and building pathology to retrofit and conservation. A part-time educator specialising in existing buildings, including a part-time Professorship at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. Also develops and delivers short courses for organisations such as RICS, IHBC, Wales Net Zero Carbon Hwb, the European Heritage Academy and Ireland-based CMG.
For the Environment Study Centre, he delivers training for the Level 3 Award in Traditional Building Retrofit, which he originated in 2015, alongside Level 3 qualifications in Damp, Mould and Condensation and other courses such as Building Conservation and Building Pathology.
RICS-certified to work on heritage buildings, Chair of the IHBC Technical Panel and a Board Member of the Sustainable Traditional Buildings Alliance. Has a UK-wide policy role as a member of the BSI Retrofit Standards Task Group, took the lead on BS 7913, the British Standard for building conservation, also contributing to PAS 2030, PAS 2035, PAS 2038, BS 40104 and the RICS Residential Retrofit Standard. Joint lead author of the forthcoming RICS publication on inspecting buildings with energy efficiency measures.
