Head of Responsible Sourcing , Balfour Beatty

Katherine Rusack is Head of Responsible Sourcing at Balfour Beatty, where she leads the integration of sustainability and responsible sourcing requirements across the company’s £2.5 billion annual procurement spend. Her work aligns with ISO 20400 Sustainable Procurement and focuses on embedding practical, outcome driven sustainability requirements into procurement processes.

Katherine has led the development of approaches to embed environmental, material and social sustainability question sets into tenders, helping move procurement beyond compliance to deliver measurable outcomes. Her current areas of focus include Scope 3 carbon from purchased goods and services, improving carbon data and transparency, and supporting the adoption of lower carbon materials, particularly ‘green’ steel.

She has supported some of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects, including HS2, Sizewell C and the Lower Thames Crossing, working closely with suppliers, project teams and senior leaders to translate sustainability ambition into delivery on live projects. Katherine also contributes to cross industry collaboration, helping shape consistent approaches to responsible sourcing across the Balfour Beatty business.

She holds a Master’s in Sustainable Business and Innovation from Utrecht University.
