Kevin is an award-winning landscape architect specialising in healthy, biodiverse, climate resilient and sustainable landscapes. His practice, Robert Bray Associates, is at the cutting edge of integrating blue-green infrastructure and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) into both new development and existing urban spaces, with an extensive portfolio comprising over 24 years of pioneering landscape design.
His ground-breaking Bridget Joyce Square community ‘Rainpark’ won the 2017 Landscape Institute ‘Adding Value Through landscape Award’ as well as the much coveted ‘President’s Award’, a 2016 ICE London award and a local Hammersmith Society award reflecting both the project's local and international significance.
He regards SuDS as a powerful tool in our response to climate emergency and a disruptive-technology which requires an industry-wide mind-shift from considering rainwater a problem to be solved to treating it as an opportunity and resource. His innovative and creative approach to rainwater management maximises multi-functionality, creating great places that help people and wildlife thrive and be resilient to climate change.
Kevin has provided UK-wide SuDS training through CIRIA and was one of three authors of the SuDS Design & Evaluation Guide (www.sudsguide.uk) used by over 20 London boroughs and local planning authorities. He is currently producing six sector-specific, ‘Reimagining Rainwater In…’ SuDS guides for the GLA, the first two of which – schools and social housing – have recently been published.
