Director of Sustainable Places , Bioregional

ewis Knight is Director of Sustainable Places at Bioregional, where he leads work at the intersection of planning, climate policy and delivery. With over 15 years’ experience across local government, consultancy and partnership-led regeneration, Lewis specialises in helping local authorities, developers and communities translate net-zero ambition into policies, strategies and built outcomes that actually work on the ground.
He has supported more than 30 UK local authorities on climate action planning, local plans and development management policy, and is particularly known for his work on carbon budgeting, net-zero spatial planning and evidence-led approaches that stand up at examination. Lewis has led and contributed to nationally influential projects including sustainability frameworks for strategic sites, retrofit guidance for councils, and tools that integrate carbon, energy and placemaking considerations into decision-making.
At Bioregional, Lewis works closely with public and private sector partners to bridge the gap between policy, design and delivery — aligning climate goals with viability, quality and long-term social value. He is a regular speaker and facilitator at industry events, known for clear, practical insights and a collaborative approach.
Lewis is also a board member of the Good Homes Alliance and is based in Oxfordshire.
