Michael Poultney
Michael Poultney is the Managing Director of Albion Stone, a fourth‑generation family business renowned for its production of high‑quality Portland Stone. Having joined the company in 1983, he succeeded his father as Managing Director in 1991, leading Albion Stone through a significant transformation from traditional quarrying to one of the UK’s most advanced and environmentally responsible mining operations. Under his leadership, the business relocated its factory to Portland and transitioned from quarrying to mining to secure long‑term reserves and minimise environmental impact.
Michael plays an active role in shaping industry standards, serving on the executive, technical, sustainability, ethical sourcing, and quarry forum committees of the Stone Federation. He also represents the Mineral Products Association at Euroroc, the English Stone Forum, and the BS545 Natural Stone Committee.
Beyond his professional achievements, Michael is known for his enthusiasm for endurance challenges, having taken part in numerous triathlons, marathons, cycling sportives and even climbing Kilimanjaro. His commitment to innovation, sustainability and industry leadership continues to influence the development of natural stone construction in the UK
