Rae is a qualified architect with over fourteen years of practice experience across the realms of architecture, urbanism, research and regeneration, giving her first-hand knowledge of the challenges that face contemporary urban development.
In her current role as Principal Project Officer for the GLA’s Regeneration and Economic Development team, Rae manages the Mayor’s investment in regeneration projects in North East London and leads the commissioning quality pillar of the Good Growth by Design programme, which includes managing the Mayor’s Architecture Design and Urbanism Panel Framework and developing research around commissioning quality in the built environment.
Over the past two years she has been leading a design inquiry into how the design of the built environment can create opportunities for children and young people to be more independently mobile within their neighbourhoods. This research culminated in the launch of the Good Growth by Design ‘Making London Child-Friendly: Designing places and streets for children and young people’ guidance in February 2020. The report sets out how we can think differently about the built environment and its effect on how young people develop and behave, and will be a key piece of evidence that informs future Supplementary Planning Guidance on play and recreation.
