Chair the UK Timber Grading Committee. Committee member of B518 (bsi. standards development – structural timber). Director of the Wood Protection Association. On the management board of the SIRT (Strategic Integrated Research in Timber) project. Member of the Trust UK C16 Campaign.

Degree in Forestry and Forest Products from the University of Wales Bangor, MBA from the Open University.

Worked in the timber processing industry for 26 years, currently based in Lockerbie.
