I am a graduate Zoologist and subsequently achieved an MBA with distinction from Nottingham university. Following a few years of varied production management related employment I started at Cleveland Steel and Tubes Ltd in 1994 as Works Manager. I have carried out a very varied portfolio of projects for the Bianco Group, of which CST is a part, including construction projects in Germany and the USA. A noteworthy project was the repurposing of the channel tunnel gantry crane system from France as an outside pipe storage facility in Germany.
Throughout its history CST has been a leader in the repurposing and reuse of tubular steel for engineering and construction applications but has always implemented its own reuse strategies at the site in Dalton.
With the advent of CE Marking in the UK it was necessary to fully understand the new legislation and its impact on reuse of steel. This lead to me having to actively lobby in the UK and EU and has resulted in much closer affiliation with Sustainability bodies and activities, such as UKGBC and ASBP.
By leading the thinking on steel reuse but also practically demonstrating what can be achieved CST is a leader in steel reuse and I have become an “expert” in the area. This culminated last year with the completion of a 12000m2 portal frame building made from a reused frame and the publication of “The Steel Re Use Protocol” in conjunction with the Steel Construction Institute.
