Seb Laan Lomas
Seb is an Associate at Architype Architects and leads its consultancy arm, Perform+, holding a passion to urgently decarbonise the built environment, prioritising bio-based materials for healthy and inspiring buildings that perform for the planet and for people.
Most recently, he led an open-source publication titled Safe Schools for the Future which combines real-world data from 17 built timber-frame schools with progressive fire research to support more UK timber in UK construction.
He also contributes to various industry groups including the England Government’s Inter-departmental Timber in Construction working group, is a Board member to the Alliance for Sustainable Building Products, and the Timber Development UK’s sustainability committee and carbon sub-committee. He has contributed to peer-reviewed industry reports and publications including those on the impacts of measuring and reducing embodied carbon in construction.
Currently, he is self-building his bio-based passivhaus home with his partner Janna in Herefordshire which is an ode to local and natural materials including hemp insulation, garden-clay plaster, straw from the neighbouring farm, and local circular economy successes including windows.
Seb is qualified as an architect, a Certified Passivhaus Designer, and studied at the University of Cambridge, the Centre for Alternative Technology, and University of Westminster.
