IN PARTNERSHIP WITH

The future of Urban Infrastructure

With the UK’s population increasingly concentrated in high-density towns and cities, the urban environment has never been more important. Uniting green, blue, grey and social and economic infrastructure, the Hub provided a concentrated platform for visitors to explore and discuss all aspects of the city, apart from the buildings themselves.

Supporting professionals working across all segments of the built environment, from prestigious residential and commercial projects through to affordable social housing initiatives, the Hub explored universal infrastructure challenges and champion the development of urban environments that work better for inhabitants.

Central to the Urban Infrastructure experience was the dedicated seminar programme, sponsored by ACO. The extensive programme featured prominent experts and delivered CPD-accredited sessions on topics, ranging from urban climate-led design to how to put placemaking first.

To support in putting new-found knowledge to use straight away, over 50 exhibiting brands and key trade associations provided an immersive backdrop featuring a multitude of new product launches, practical demonstrations and exciting feature attractions.

City Walk

City Walk

City Walk was new to Futurebuild for 2019. The café offered time to pause and see products focussed on urban placemaking including trees, active travel, urban street furniture and lighting and opportunities for children’s play. City Walk displayed the wide range of elements that are needed to create positive experiences in the public realm.

ICE Water Refill Station

ICE Water Refill Station

ICE's Water Refill Station focussed on Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) as part of ICE’s wider water knowledge programme. Visitors were able to learn about implementation and adoption of SuDS in the context of two design sprints, held in partnership with Wavin, using design thinking to develop novel solutions using insights from multiple stakeholders. The findings from these sprints were also presented and discussed on 5 March at the Futurebuild’s Knowledge Forum.
Wavin’s Water Bottles

Wavin’s Water Bottles

Ever wondered what happens beneath our roads? This year Wavin are building a road, with a car, to highlight our solution to excessive rainfall. Visitors were able to watch the movie and enjoy their virtual reality experience! 2019 is the Institution of Civil Engineers Year of Water and Wavin are partnering with them this year to drive conversations about the future of water, how we implement and retrofit SuDS. Visitors were given a free water bottle to fill it at the ICE Water Station.
