Energiesprong is a transformational approach to delivering net zero energy retrofit and new build homes, financed by savings and with performance guaranteed.
Dutch for ‘Energy Leap’, it was developed by the Dutch Government when they realised that a radically different approach to home retrofit was needed. Performance and delivery rates had to go up, costs had to come down and it had to be great for residents.
Nearly 10,000 net zero energy homes have been delivered in the Netherlands so far, and a further 100,000 homes are contracted. All financed from energy and maintenance savings alone.
The Energiesprong approach is technology and company agnostic. A solution provider is procured to deliver a ‘design, build and guarantee’ contract against a high-level Performance Specification, which requires >80% improvement to fabric thermal performance, plus renewable energy generation and heating equipment required to achieve annual net zero energy consumption.
Site time allowed is <10 days, which drives the offsite approaches required to reduce costs and improve performance through industrialisation of retrofit. Some Dutch contractors have got delivery down to one day on site.
We have completed the UK’s first 10 homes in Nottingham, CIH’s UK Housing Innovation of the Year, a pipeline of over 250 homes are in delivery or procurement across the country and there is a Collective Commitment from landlords to bring a further 1,000+ homes to market.
At Futurebuild, where the UK team, frontrunner landlords and solution providers were on hand, to inform you how it works and join the movement that is delivering homes fit for 2050 – today.
