With over one in five homes in the country being first constructed over 100 years ago, the UK has the oldest – and arguably most inefficient – housing stock in Europe. In no small part because of this, at present it is estimated that over 20% of the UK’s carbon emissions are produced by the housing sector, and, with extreme heat events already becoming more frequent and severe, it is clear that the Government, and the sector itself, needs to do more.
