Introduction to the Flexibility Innovation programme and project insights – curated by Department for Energy Security and Net Zero

The session will introduce the Flexibility Innovation Programme which is part of the £1 billion Net Zero Innovation Portfolio. The ability to shift energy in time or location to balance supply and demand is essential for decarbonising power, buildings and transport and could bring down yearly system costs by up to £10 billion by 2050. The up to £65m Flexibility Innovation Programme is supporting innovative solutions to help realise the potential of demand side flexibility, across three themes of: integrating systems for flexibility, data and digitalisation, and markets for flexibility. The session will present progress of the Programme to date, including the over 50 projects funded so far.
