Effective indoor air quality monitoring for better buildings – curated by BRE

In the post-COVID era there has been a significant increase in people’s awareness about indoor air quality (IAQ) and ventilation. People want to be assured that the air they breathe in the spaces in which they live, learn and work is of acceptable quality.  IAQ can vary significantly depending on the indoor sources, the activity of the residents in the building, ventilation provision and outdoor air pollution.  It is therefore important that the methods and equipment used for monitoring IAQ are fit for purpose.  This presentation will cover the main indoor air pollutants of concern, their sources and effects, and how they may be measured and monitored.  With the increased demand for data which can be used to benchmark and improve indoor environments comes the need for assessment schemes (such as BS 40102) and cost-effective, user-friendly sensors and monitors: these will also be discussed.

Speaker:
Andy Dengel,
Director of Environment, BRE
