Dr Madalena Vaz Monteiro is an urban forest scientist based at the Urban Forest Research Group – Forest Research. Madalena’s work investigates how urban trees and greenspaces can act to regulate surrounding temperatures and help combat the Urban Heat Island effect. She also studies how well a range of tree species grow in urban areas to help understand which are the most adapted to these inhospitable conditions, particularly in view of climate change.
