Duncan Grassie, Research Fellow, University College London
Duncan Grassie is currently completing his PhD at the Institute of Environmental Design and Engineering, hopefully completing his viva by the time of FutureBuild. His PhD investigated feedback mechanisms, data quality and modelling constraints of a data crowdsourcing platform which could inform future retrofit decisions on the UK school stock. During lockdown he spent 18 months as a Research Fellow on the ASPIRE project, incorporating overheating and attainment metrics into the same modelling used for the PhD, working closely with DfE, CIBSE and individual schools. Duncan previously spent a decade as a petroleum engineer working in Romania, Norway, Denmark and the Middle East working on mature fields. As well as informing the need to reduce demand, Duncan firmly believes that we need to ensure that the technical solutions required are practical with respect to occupants’ health and use of buildings.
