Tom Young is an applied ecologist and scientist who has been working in the green roof sector for the last 12 years. Tom studied for a PhD at the University of Sheffield and specialised in green roof substrate design. He was instrumental in writing the UK’s fist dedicated British Standard for Green Roof Substrate test methods, and set up a dedicated green roof substrate testing lab. Tom has helped design and build a number of blue-green roofs, and has been involved in a significant amount of sub-surface water collection and irrigation research for the industry. Tom is currently a Blue-Green Infrastructure Associate for TEP, a multi disciplinary environmental consultancy. Tom has been a GRO Board Member for the last 3 years.
